Carolyn Wyman is the author of eight food books, including “The Great American Chocolate Chip Cookie Book,” “The Great Philly Cheesesteak Book,” “Better Than Homemade,” “Spam: A Biography,” “Jell-O: A Biography” and “The Great Philly Cheesesteak Book,” the latter, exploiting her knowledge of food in her hometown of Philadelphia, which she also shared in more than a decade as owner/operator of the Taste of Philly Food Tour at Reading Terminal Market. She returns to her R.I. junk food roots in 2023’s “The Great Clam Cake and Fritter Guide.” Her nationally syndicated Supermarket Sampler column appeared in newspapers across the country for more than 20 years. She has also written for Thrillist, BuzzFeed, the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, the Philadelphia Inquirer and the Boston Globe. She has discussed the Keebler Elves on NPR’s “Morning Edition,” fed her famous “clothes dryer shrimp” dish to comedienne Rosie O’Donnell, fooled no one on the syndicated game shows I’ve Got a Secret and To Tell the Truth (her seriousness about bad-for-you eats being so evident) and once appeared in the National Examiner tabloid sitting in a shopping cart full of groceries (as you can plainly see).
I comment on Janet Yellen’s choice of Jim’s cheesesteak for Reuters.
